AT&T, AmEx Sued Over Secure Transaction Patent

Law360, New York (May 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than a dozen banks and communications companies, including AT&T Inc., American Express Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., have been tagged in a suit accusing them of infringing a patent that covers an apparatus and method for making secure credit card transactions.

Patent inventors Raymond Joao and Robert Bock lodged the suit through their patent sublicensing company Joao Bock Transaction Systems of Texas LLC on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
