Married Couples Sue Gov't For Detaining Immigrant Spouses

Law360 (April 12, 2018, 6:43 PM EDT) -- A putative class of married couples has accused the government in Massachusetts federal court of unlawfully detaining and trying to deport immigrant spouses who are seeking permanent residency in the U.S. and are married to U.S. citizens.

The American Civil Liberties Union, on behalf of four such families, on Tuesday alleged that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's practice of "systematically targeting" immigrant spouses with final orders of removal who are seeking to obtain lawful permanent resident status conflicts with rules within its own department.
