Werther's Candy Maker Settles Suit Over Underfilled Bags
By Rachel Graf (June 11, 2018, 1:56 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Friday dismissed a proposed class action alleging the maker of Werther's Original sugar-free chew caramels purposefully underfills the packages of candies, saying the parties had reached an undisclosed settlement.
U.S. District Judge Vincent L. Briccetti said Jeffrey Kpakpoe-Awei and Chicago-based Storck USA LP reached an agreement to end allegations that the company fills the 2.75-ounce bags of caramels with unnecessary empty space that misrepresents the amount of chews that are actually in the container.
