FCC To Probe If Sinclair Clouded Tribune Divestiture Deal

Law360 (July 19, 2018, 6:03 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission plans to probe whether Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. obscured that it would effectively retain control of three divested stations in its acquisition of Tribune Media Co., according to a hearing designation order that was officially released Thursday afternoon.

The 22-page document, which was approved by all four commissioners on Wednesday night, asks an administrative law judge to review the now-withdrawn proposal that Sinclair would sell two of its stations to Cunningham Broadcast Corp. and spin off a major Tribune station to another entity.

Those sell-offs prove problematic due to an "intertwined relationship" between Sinclair and other broadcasters...
