Providers Say Don't Kill Hospital Bellwether In Opioid MDL

Law360 (August 6, 2018, 7:44 PM EDT) -- A coalition of 44 hospitals that say they are on the front lines of treating the opioid epidemic on Friday asked to weigh in on multidistrict litigation over the opioid crisis, arguing that efforts to dismiss a bellwether lawsuit for hospitals should be rejected.

The hospitals requested permission to file their brief, which rebuts motions to dismiss filed previously by drug manufacturers and distributors. The hospitals said they should not have to "bear the costs" of the care they provided as a result of the conduct of the defendants.
