Qatari Broadcaster Lobs $1B Pirating Claim At Saudi Arabia
Law360 (October 2, 2018, 6:17 PM EDT) -- Qatari sports and entertainment network beIN Media Group said Monday that it has initiated a $1 billion international arbitration claim against Saudi Arabia, saying the country did nothing to stop "the most widespread piracy of sports broadcasting the world has ever seen.”
BeIN alleges that after diplomatic ties between Qatar and Saudi Arabia broke down in June 2017 following allegations that Qatar was supporting terrorist groups, Saudi Arabia revoked beIN's legal right to operate in the jurisdiction, prohibited its broadcasts and blocked access to its websites and call center.
