FCC Auction Might Sink 2.5 GHz, Broadband Group Warns
Law360 (January 22, 2019, 9:40 PM EST) -- A proposed spectrum auction in the 2.5 GHz band may be a flop if the Federal Communications Commission does not listen to educational institutions on how they want to use the airwaves in the future, cautioned one industry member during a Washington, D.C., panel event on Tuesday.
Contrary to the FCC's statements that the band allocated for educational projects has been "fallow," institutions are using the Educational Broadband Service to serve schools, libraries and families across the country, even if the licenses are first being leased to commercial entities, said Katherine Messier, who represents the North American Catholic Educational Programming Foundation....
