Apple Urges Fed. Circ. To Ax VirnetX's $600M Patent Win

Law360 (January 28, 2019, 8:18 PM EST) -- Apple urged the Federal Circuit on Monday to toss a nearly $600 million judgment that patent licensing company VirnetX secured against the technology giant, arguing that the asserted claims of all the patents in the case have been invalidated by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Apple Inc. gave the appellate court several reasons it should toss the case in Monday's opening brief, including the invalidation of the claims by the PTAB "several times over" in related proceedings, along with its assertion that it redesigned the products that allegedly infringed VirnetX's network security patents: FaceTime and VPN On Demand.
