Litigation Over Navy Explosives Tests Stayed

Law360, New York (July 21, 2009, 4:59 PM EDT) -- In light of the U.S. Navy’s decision to halt controversial training operations in Puget Sound, a federal judge has stayed litigation over the explosives exercises while the Navy conducts the necessary environmental reviews.

On Friday, Judge Benjamin H. Settle of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington refused to dismiss the allegations and stayed the action until Feb. 1, 2010, so that the Navy can complete the reviews mandated by the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act.
