Beware Cost Of Meal And Rest Break Noncompliance In Calif.

Law360 (February 22, 2019, 2:00 PM EST) -- On Jan. 22, 2019, G4S Secure Solutions (previously known as Wackenhut Corporation) agreed to settle a consolidated meal and rest period class action for at least $100 million and up to $130 million depending on the class administration process. The settlement, which should resolve the claims of 13,500 employees, ends 15 years of contested litigation.

G4S' forthcoming payout — one of the largest in California history for a meal and rest period action — should serve as a reminder to all employers of the costly price tag for noncompliance with California's highly technical (and unforgiving) wage and hour laws.
