Local Officials Back Bill To Repeal FCC's 5G Rule

By Anne Cullen (March 1, 2019, 6:03 PM EST) -- Dozens of local officials threw their support behind a bill that would roll back a Federal Communications Commission rule limiting their control over the deployment of infrastructure for the next-generation network, or 5G, saying the legislation would restore authority to its "rightful position" in the hands of local jurisdictions.

Led by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, the coalition penned a letter to Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif. on Wednesday, applauding her introduction of the Accelerating Wireless Broadband Development by Empowering Local Communities Act in January.
