Charter Asks High Court To Review Racial Bias Ruling

Law360 (March 8, 2019, 8:40 PM EST) -- Charter Communications has appealed a pair of Ninth Circuit panel rulings that held the cable provider can't escape claims it wrongly passed over an African-American-owned production firm, and asked the Supreme Court to find the Ninth Circuit's view conflicts with the First Amendment.

In a cert petition filed late Friday, Charter said the high court must rethink two decisions allowing a racial-bias suit involving Weather Channel owner Byron Allen to proceed, saying that the appeals court misread provisions of the Civil Rights Act and applied them too broadly.
