Monsanto Bellwether Over Roundup Cancer Risk Goes To Jury
By Dorothy Atkins (March 12, 2019, 9:24 PM EDT) -- Monsanto's Roundup weedkiller was a "substantial factor" in causing a California man's cancer, his attorney said during closing arguments Tuesday in the first such federal bellwether trial over the product, while Monsanto's attorneys argued his illness isn't unique and there's no way to know its cause.
During trial in San Francisco, Ed Hardeman's attorney, Aimee H. Wagstaff of Andrus Wagstaff, told a six-member jury that Hardeman's experts presented "overwhelming" evidence, in the form of animal studies, mechanistic data, and epidemiological data, that shows the risk of getting non-Hodgkin's lymphoma increases the more a person uses Roundup.
