Ex-Refinery Worker Wins $25M In Testicular Cancer Trial

Law360 (March 15, 2019, 8:44 PM EDT) -- A California jury on Thursday held two Fluor companies liable for a man’s testicular mesothelioma, finding the man was exposed to asbestos while working at oil refineries in Iran and awarding him and his wife $25 million.

Concluding a trial that started on Feb. 20, the Los Angeles jury found in favor of plaintiffs Houshang and Soraya Sabetian, finding that negligence by Fluor Enterprises Inc. and Middle East Fluor was a substantial factor in Houshang Sabetian’s being stricken with cancer. Sabetian worked on various Iranian oil refineries from 1959 through 1979, according to case documents.
