Suit Blaming GE For Fukushima Fallout Belongs In Japan

By Rick Archer (April 8, 2019, 7:29 PM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal judge Monday dismissed a proposed class action by Japanese residents against Boston-based General Electric over their loss of property due to the 2011 meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, saying the litigation belongs in Japan.

U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris dismissed the claims that shoddy design by GE contributed to the nuclear disaster that forced the 150,000 potential class members from their homes, saying there was no reason to try the case in a U.S. court when there was no evidence they wouldn't get a fair shake in Japanese courts.
