Trump Lays Groundwork For Tariffs On All Chinese Goods

Law360 (May 13, 2019, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The Trump administration continued to escalate its trade standoff with China late Monday as it proposed new tariffs on about $300 billion worth of goods that would effectively apply a 25% levy on all goods shipped to the U.S. from China.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer made good on his vow to propose the new duties, targeting the remainder of Chinese goods that have not yet been swept up in the White House’s long-running tariff campaign. The move follows the administration’s decision to raise its most recent tranche of duties covering $200 billion in goods from 10% to 25%.
