SoCalGas Failures Caused Aliso Canyon Leak, Study Says

Law360 (May 20, 2019, 7:55 PM EDT) -- Southern California Gas Co. didn’t conduct needed follow-up inspections after scores of earlier leaks and lacked risk assessment practices, failures that ultimately led to the massive Aliso Canyon natural gas leak in 2015 and 2016, a study has found.

SoCalGas has already agreed to shell out $119.5 million to California and the city of Los Angeles to settle a pair of civil suits over the leak, which lasted five months and released more than 100,000 metric tons of methane into the atmosphere.
