Ed Sheeran Wants Marvin Gaye Audio Banned From Trial

Law360 (May 22, 2019, 2:36 PM EDT) -- With a trial looming over whether Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" infringes Marvin Gaye's iconic "Let's Get It On," the pop star is pushing to prevent jurors from hearing Gaye's famous recorded version of the song.

Sheeran, who was sued over "Thinking" in 2017 by the heirs of "Let's Get It On" co-writer Ed Townsend, told a New York federal judge Tuesday that the copyright to the song only covers a bare-bones written version, not the more robust — and more problematically similar — version performed by Gaye.
