Schumer Urges Border Emergency Vote After $3.6B Diversion
Law360, Washington (September 10, 2019, 6:15 PM EDT) -- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday that he would force another vote "within the next month" on President Donald Trump's emergency declaration and diversion of $3.6 billion in military construction funds to extend the wall along the southern border.
"This issue rises to a large and vital constitutional issue. Does our country truly have checks and balances, particularly when we have such an overreaching president?" Schumer said on the Senate floor. "As stipulated by the National Emergencies Act, Democrats will once again force a vote to terminate the president's national emergency declaration."
