"Hand-Picked" Vioxx Suit Dropped Just Before Trial

Law360, New York (October 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With nearly 23,800 Vioxx-related lawsuits filed across the United States, drug maker Merck & Co. has one less to worry about after a plaintiff dropped her personal injury case just two before it was set to go to trial.

The case was one of two that were hand-picked by plaintiffs as the first to be tried in the Texas state-wide proceedings against the company, which began when Merck recalled the arthritis drug after it was linked to heart problems.
