Laos Wants Idaho Businessman Held Liable For $3.7M Award

Law360 (April 22, 2020, 8:35 PM EDT) -- Laos urged an Idaho federal court on Tuesday to enforce arbitral awards totaling $3.7 million against the owner of a distressed lending business, Bridge Capital LLC, as the alter ego of two companies related to a soured casino venture. 

Businessman John Baldwin is alleged to control Sanum Investments Ltd. and Lao Holdings NV, which were ordered to pay the country about $1.78 million and $1.9 million, respectively, in final arbitral awards issued last year. Laos said the court must "piece the corporate veil" and hold Baldwin and Bridge Capital liable for the awards.
