HuffPost, Rolling Stone Beat Arpaio's New Defamation Suit

By Mike LaSusa (April 29, 2020, 8:39 PM EDT) -- A Washington, D.C., federal judge on Wednesday threw out a revamped defamation case brought by former Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff Joe Arpaio, which sought more than $300 million in damages from HuffPost, Rolling Stone and journalists at both publications.

U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth said the new case was too similar to the older case, which was dismissed because Arpaio failed to convince the court that there was actual malice in the publications' inaccurate — and now corrected — descriptions of the ex-sheriff's criminal record.
