Dish's Trade Reps Renew Call To Push 5G Into 12 GHz Band

Law360 (May 27, 2020, 7:23 PM EDT) -- Three D.C.-based telecom trade groups that count nascent mobile provider Dish Network among their members called on the Federal Communications Commission to reopen the conversation about the potential to use satellite airwaves within the 12 GHz band to support next-generation mobile technologies.

In a letter to the agency Tuesday, the trio of trade associations teamed up with a pair of policy organizations to try and rouse agency action on a four-year-old petition spearheaded by Dish. The satellite television provider says some of the 12 GHz airwaves currently being used to beam satellite TV into U.S. households are ideal for 5G deployments.
