NBCUniversal Ducks Atty's Defamation Suit At 4th Circ.

Law360 (August 19, 2020, 10:24 PM EDT) -- NBCUniversal Media LLC and a Washington, D.C.-based affiliate station need not face a defamation complaint by an attorney who claimed a news report incorrectly alleged he had fled to Africa to dodge police, the Fourth Circuit has determined.

The report that aired on WRC-TV in March 2017 was a fair account of notes included in court documents by a magistrate judge, who had contended that attorney Fidelis Agbapuruonwu was on the lam after his wife was charged with welfare fraud, a three-judge panel of the appellate court held in an unpublished opinion on Tuesday.
