Indian Tribe Asks For Labor-Law Exemption

Law360, New York (November 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Southern California Indian tribe that owns a lucrative casino has argued before a federal appeals court that tribes are sovereign governments that should be considered exempt from federal labor laws.

On the other hand, the National Labor Relations Board contended Monday that tribal gambling has emerged as a $22 billion-a-year industry and should be regarded as any other business.
