Rail Unions Seek Injunction In Railway Vax Mandate Row
By Celeste Bott (November 15, 2021, 6:41 PM EST) -- Two rail worker unions asked an Illinois federal judge for an injunction requiring Union Pacific Railroad Co. and Norfolk Southern Railway Co. to maintain the status quo and bargain with them before enforcing federal vaccine requirements.
That enforcement amounts to a change to the terms and conditions of union workers' employment, which the rail carriers have done without adhering to the required collective bargaining procedure under the Railway Labor Act, according to separate preliminary injunction motions filed by the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen on Friday.
