Lorillard Stubs Out Suit Over Asbestos Cigarette Filters

Law360, New York (January 21, 2010, 3:58 PM EST) -- In a case brought by a man who claims 1950s Kent cigarette filters that contained asbestos caused his mesothelioma, a California state jury has found that Lorillard Tobacco Co. was not negligent in making the cigarettes and that the filter was not defectively designed.

The verdict Tuesday in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles was the 15th court victory for Lorillard out of 19 cases over the asbestos-containing filters that have gone to trial since 1990, according to...
