GE Accused of Negligence, Privacy Invasion In Theft

Law360, New York (December 6, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A former employee of a General Electric subsidiary has filed a lawsuit accusing the company of negligence after a laptop containing confidential information of 50,000 current and former employees was stolen.

The suit was filed Tuesday in California Superior Court for the County of Marin. Lawyers hope to win class action status.

The suit, which alleges negligence and invasion of privacy, is asking the court to force GE to disclose the extent of the personal information stolen, and to award damages from the theft and attorneys...
