Judge Ejects Tort Claims From NBAer's Theft Suit

Law360, New York (March 2, 2010, 7:08 PM EST) -- A federal judge has dismissed breach of fiduciary duty claims brought by NBA star Richard Hamilton against his former business manager and directed the plaintiff to revise his complaint to include only contract-based claims.

Judge Marianne Battani of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Monday dismissed the suit's tort claims, determining that Hamilton had not shown that his former manager had violated any legal duty separate and distinct from his contractual obligations.
