US OKs Iran, Cuba, Sudan Exports To Boost Web Use

Law360, New York (March 9, 2010, 5:52 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control has approved the export of Web-based services such as e-mail to Sudan, Iran and Cuba in response to concerns that trade sanctions have stifled the flow of information in Iran.

OFAC said Monday that it has amended the transactions regulations for Iran, Cuba and Sudan to add general licenses for the export of Internet services related to social networking, blogging, instant messaging, e-mail, photo and movie sharing, and Web browsing.
