Internet Age Revives 'Hot News' Doctrine: Expert

Law360, New York (April 13, 2010, 7:41 PM EDT) -- In the wake of recent suits brought by the Associated Press and several brokerage firms over the theft of “hot” breaking news, DLA Piper's Andrew L. Deutsch has said that more intellectual property attorneys will wield the “hot news” doctrine to stop clients' competitors from stealing facts online.

Deutsch participated in a panel on intellectual property issues in the news industry on Monday with Laura Malone, the AP's associate general counsel for intellectual property, and Carroll Burdick & McDonough LLP's Dana Beldiman.
