Court Bars Seizure Of Money Transfers

Law360, New York (January 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A state court has ruled that Arizona has no right to confiscate thousands of Western Union Co. money transfers to Mexico sent from states outside of Arizona.

The decision by Arizona Superior Court in Maricopa County on Tuesday brings some relief to Western Union, which depends on electronic money transfers to Mexico as an integral source of its business. The transfers account for nearly 10% of the Englewood, Colo.-based company’s money transfers.
