Societe Generale Ex-Trader Charged With Code Theft

Law360, New York (April 19, 2010, 6:07 PM EDT) -- A former Societe Generale Group trader has been arrested and charged with stealing parts of his former employer's proprietary computer code related to the investment firm's high-frequency trading system.

Samarth Agrawal, 26, was charged Monday with one count of trade secrets theft for allegedly taking copies of Societe Generale's computer code from the firm's New York offices, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. If convicted, Agrawal faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
