High-Tech Lobbying Group Pushes For DMCA Rollbacks

Law360 (June 22, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A coalition of influential technology companies has launched a lobbying effort to revise a key part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The Personal Technology Freedom Coalition, whose members include Intel, Sun Microsystems, Verizon Communications, SBC, Qwest, Gateway and BellSouth, are supporting a proposal by Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., to rewrite the controversial DMCA to allow consumers to break copy controls to do such things as make personal copies of compact disks or movies.
