Massey Offers Victims' Families $3M Each

Law360, New York (April 30, 2010, 5:30 PM EDT) -- Amid securities suits and a possible criminal probe, beleaguered coal producer Massey Energy Co. has reportedly offered $3 million to each of the families of the 29 people killed in a massive mine explosion that occurred at the beginning of April.

Michelle McKinney, the daughter of one of the victims, told the Associated Press on Thursday that Massey made her the $3 million offer about a week ago, and that other families received the same offer. However, she said she wasn't interesting in settling.
