AG Intervenes In MRI Kickback Suit

Law360, New York (January 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Illinois attorney general has joined an ongoing lawsuit against several Chicago-area radiology centers that paid illegal kickbacks to referring doctors, unsealing the case and revealing the scope of the scheme to the public.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said on Wednesday she had intervened in the lawsuit, which alleges that MRI operators entered into sham lease agreements with doctors under which the doctors pay a reduced rate for MRI and CT scans but charge the patient’s insurance a higher rate, pocketing the difference.
