Court Backs Dismissal Of Maryland’s “Wal-Mart Law”

Law360, New York (January 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a favorable 2-1 ruling for the world’s largest retailer, an appeals court has found that Maryland’s contentious “Wal-Mart law,” which would have forced the company to provide health insurance to its employees, is a violation of federal law.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit decision Wednesday blocks Maryland’s efforts to require companies with more than 10,000 employees to spend at least 8% of payroll on employee health insurance.
