Rep. Sees Tough Review For United-Continental Deal

Law360, New York (May 6, 2010, 6:20 PM EDT) -- The head of the House Transportation Committee reportedly said Thursday that he expected the U.S. government to conduct a more rigorous review of the proposed $3 billion merger of UAL Corp.'s United Air Lines Inc. and Continental Airlines Inc. than it had of previous airline mergers.

Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., told reporters on a conference call he thought the U.S. Department of Justice under the Obama administration would be more aggressive in merger enforcement efforts than under the previous administration, Reuters reported.
