Jury Hits Novartis With $3.4M Sex Bias Verdict

Law360, New York (May 17, 2010, 2:36 PM EDT) -- A jury found Novartis Pharmaceutical Corp. liable Monday for three classwide issues of pay, promotion and pregnancy discrimination in a suit brought on behalf of 5,600 female sales employees.

After about a week of deliberations, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said the drugmaker owed the 12 plaintiffs who testified $3.36 million in compensatory damages. A hearing will be held Tuesday on punitive damages.
