Class Action Against Philip Morris, Others Tossed

Law360, New York (June 24, 2010, 4:18 PM EDT) -- A proposed class action first filed in 1998 accusing Philip Morris USA Inc., R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and other tobacco companies of unjustly profiting from misrepresentations about cigarette safety has been dismissed.

Judge Matthew F. Kennelly of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois dismissed the plaintiffs' fourth amended complaint Tuesday, more than a decade after it was first filed in Illinois state court on behalf of several putative classes.
