Insurers Balk At Lien Waiver Request In 9/11 Deal

Law360, New York (July 27, 2010, 5:21 PM EDT) -- American International Group Inc. and a New York state insurance fund told a federal judge Tuesday they were unwilling to unilaterally waive workers' compensation liens in connection with a $713 million settlement for 9/11 rescue workers.

Lawyers for the insurers told Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein in a status conference in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that they could not match New York City's own offer to drop any attempt to cover workers' compensation payments already paid to claimants.
