Lateral Market Cools Down, Reversing 2-Month Trend

Law360, New York (August 2, 2010, 2:46 PM EDT) -- After two months of growth in activity, lateral movement in the legal industry cooled off in July, dropping 18 percent compared to June.

A total of 175 partners, shareholders, of counsel, special counsel and managing partners moved to new firms in July, down from 214 lateral moves the previous month, according to data Law360 compiled from law firm news releases.

The dip follows two months of growth in lateral activity: in May, Law360 recorded 202 lateral moves, representing a 28 percent increase over April's numbers. April...
