Black Brokers Denied Cert. In Merrill Lynch Bias Suit

Law360, New York (August 9, 2010, 6:41 PM EDT) -- In a win for Bank of America Corp.-owned Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc., a federal judge has denied class certification to black financial advisers in their race discrimination case against the investment banking giant.

Judge Ronald Gettleman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Thursday found that 17 plaintiffs who sued the brokerage firm under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act failed to prove their cases were common enough to be tried together.
