Camel Rolling Stone Ads Aren't Cartoons: Pa. Court

Law360, New York (August 19, 2010, 11:42 AM EDT) -- Camel-brand cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. has won a ruling from a Pennsylvania appeals court that an advertising spread used to promote indie rock music in Rolling Stone magazine did not violate a ban on cartoon advertising.

A three-judge panel of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court on Tuesday reversed a lower court decision that found Reynolds had violated the 1998 master settlement agreement with 45 states and a consent decree with the state of Pennsylvania that prohibits cartoon advertising by tobacco companies.
