Chemtura To Pay $26M To Settle Cleanup Claims

Law360, New York (August 24, 2010, 6:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government has reached a $26 million settlement with bankrupt chemical manufacturer Chemtura Corp. to resolve claims over cleanup costs at 17 contaminated sites around the country, most of which are on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's list of Superfund sites.

Under a proposed settlement filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Chemtura has agreed to pay $26 million in cash and allowed claims for 17 properties in 14 different states. Of those...
