Chemtura Settles Class Actions Over '04 Fire For $7M

Law360, New York (August 27, 2010, 4:10 PM EDT) -- Bankrupt chemical manufacturer Chemtura Corp. has reached a $7 million settlement resolving class action litigation over a 2004 fire at the Conyers, Ga., warehouse of its subsidiary Bio-Lab Inc.

Chemtura filed a motion Thursday asking the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to approve a proposed settlement resolving four putative class actions and a fifth case involving 2,000 plaintiffs.

The cases stem from a two-day fire at Bio-Lab's 265,000-square-foot finished goods warehouse in Conyers in May 2004. No one was injured, but...
