TWIA Faces Action Over Hurricane Ike Payouts

Law360, New York (September 3, 2010, 5:15 PM EDT) -- The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association has been hit with a putative class action by property owners who claim it underpaid windstorm insurance benefits for damage inflicted by Hurricane Ike.

Three named plaintiffs filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Thursday, claiming Ike ruined their beach houses.

The case comes less than two months after TWIA said it would pay $189 million to settle state court litigation brought by plaintiffs whose homes were destroyed by the storm.
