'Rear Window' IP Owner Loses Fight With Spielberg

Law360, New York (September 22, 2010, 5:58 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that Steven Spielberg's 2007 movie “Disturbia” does not infringe the copyright for the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock thriller “Rear Window,” finding no substantial similarity between the “total concept and feel” of the two works.

Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Tuesday granted a motion for summary judgment on copyright infringement claims filed by Spielberg and other defendants, and ordered the case closed.
