Steinbeck Heirs Battle Wife's Estate Before 2nd Circ.

Law360, New York (October 8, 2010, 4:58 PM EDT) -- A decades-long squabble over control of copyrights for the works of John Steinbeck spilled over into a federal appeals court on Friday, with the author’s son and granddaughter seeking to reinstate a suit against the heirs of Steinbeck’s third wife.

Baker & McKenzie attorney Jennifer A. Semko, who is representing the author’s son Thomas Steinbeck and granddaughter Blake Smyle, told judges in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that Steinbeck’s third wife, Elaine Steinbeck, clearly breached fiduciary duties owed to the author’s heirs....
