Gemalto Sues Google, Motorola Over Java Patents

Law360, New York (October 25, 2010, 2:02 PM EDT) -- Gemalto SA has accused Google Inc., Motorola Inc., HTC Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. of infringing three patents covering Java Card technology incorporated into smartphones that use Google's Android operating system.

The French digital security provider filed a complaint Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, seeking to bar Google and the smartphone makers from using the Android system, which is quickly gaining market share over Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Research In Motion Ltd.'s Blackberry devices.
